WARPRO SETS TOUGH FIRST TEST FOR RZ31K

The Panasonic PT-RZ31K has been put to the test by Warpro, the first UK rental company to commit to the newly launched 30,000 lumens laser projector.

The company has used the projector for an installation in tandem with Edinburgh’s ‘Street of Light’ celebration, battling 300 lux of ambient light to create a building projection on the Tigerlily Hotel on the city’s George Street.

The Street of Light runs until Christmas Eve and features over 60,000 bulbs. The projection, designed by Andy McGregor, needed to cut through the almost daylight ambient light levels to create a light spectacle of its own.

Alistair Young, MD of Warpro, said, “Everything about it says it’s wrong. We are battling against extreme ambient light with a projector positioned just 12 metres from the building.

“Last year, we used two projectors double stacked from the opposite side of the street, but this year we also had to cope with the ‘Street of Light’ and were able to do so with just a single 30,000 lumens unit fitted with a wide angle lens. From an optical, light output and power consumption perspective, I don’t think this would have been possible using any other unit or units.”

The results speak for themselves and a short film of Santa virtually climbing the building has had well over half a million views on Facebook with the show becoming a “must see” attraction in Edinburgh’s festive calendar.

Available in both WUXGA and SXGA+, the PT-RZ31K series is the brightest in the Panasonic range with an exceptionally compact and lightweight body harnessing powerful SOLID SHINE laser technology. In normal operation, the RZ31K is designed for 20,000 hours of maintenance free operation.

Gareth Day, Group Manager for Panasonic Visual Systems in the UK, said, “We are starting to see installations, such as this one, where compact, high brightness laser projection is expanding the scope of what’s achievable. Warpro was the first UK company to commit to the RZ31K and has also added ten 9,000 lumen laser projectors to their roster, so are playing a key role in the adoption of laser projection technology in the rental market.”
